Manhole Memory Game

For our ceramic hand-building studio, we were asked to choose a site-specific installation on campus for our final ceramic project. I happened to have stumbled upon a manhole at RISD’s Market Square. It suddenly reminded me of the Japan’s beautiful manholes that are unique to each city. It was then that I immediately thought that the project could be an opportunity to do something similar and even take it further by elevating a mundane manhole and making it a center of attraction at the plaza.
