Design & Product Development
Images below show the process of this extraordinary project resulting to rather pleasantly bizarre ideas.
Breaking it down
Using a mind map, I deconstructed the spoon into its parts and arranged its usage in chronological order to help identify details that are often overlooked.
Ideation & Mock-ups
Through quick sketches, various concepts were created in which parts of the spoon were exaggerated to create unique and challenging experiences. Some concepts were drawn from existing toys to add the element of fun to the challenge.
Although sketches are very crucial in the design process to put one’s ideas into paper quickly, building mockups early is a very effective way to see how concepts play out in real life - Scale, tactility and human interaction start to influence the design
2D sketches and 3D models may generate have different responses from a group. For this project, the concept above initially seemed “just okay” on paper but it turned out to have the most visceral responses in class. This sketch model was made using an existing plastic spoon, cut wires and rolled strips of bristol board
